Nords Wharf has an official population of fewer than 1000 people; one of them is Australias newest world champion. The sleepy town, situated in the Lake Macquarie region of New South Wales, is possibly one of the last place you would expect to find an extreme sports superstar, but that is a title Rhiannan Iffland has earned after victory in Dubai sealed her maiden Red Bull Cliff Diving world series title. This Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series was a complete dream come true for me, especially coming this year in my debut season as the rookie, Iffland told ESPN.Its been a goal of mine for a few years to be up there on the circuit and just be involved and competing up there next to those athletes was a dream come true at the start of the year. I was super, super excited to be there participating. After the first competition I guess everything just played out very, very well for me and here I am now still in my little bubble thinking that really did just happen. I have to pinch my arm a little bit.Iffland is the first Australian woman to win the Red Bull Cliff Diving world series in its three-year existence, but her record is the most dominant ever from a female competitor. As a rookie, the 24-year-old won five of the seven events on the calendar to finish with 1290 points overall -- 260 clear of her nearest rival and almost double the total of Americas Cesilie Carlton (780) in third place. But Iffland isnt one for records or statistics; she prefers to look forward to her title defence in 2017, fully aware she wont be the unknown commodity that she was this year.I will have a little bit more pressure on my shoulders next year I guess but its not really about winning for me, Iffland said. Its about the passion and the enjoyment of the sport and thats why I believe I did so well this year. However, Iffland isnt immune to the same fears, nerves or apprehensions that anyone else would experience in her choice of occupation. Its definitely frightening being up there and every single time I go up there I am a little bit scared, Iffland told ESPN.That little devil inside is saying jump, jump and then on the other shoulder theres the angel saying no, dont jump but I think with time and as you do more dives it gets a bit easier to control the thoughts and emotions while standing up there as well as the adrenaline.I use the adrenaline to my advantage. Just thinking positive plays a huge part in being able to overcome any fear.I often find myself standing up on the platform and taking a deep breath, opening my eyes and having a look around at where I am, trying to block everything out, forgetting what I am about to do, taking in the scenery and really taking in the moment.Standing up there, its an absolutely amazing feeling; hitting the water and the feeling of accomplishment that I have overcome my fears and achieved something just makes me want to get back up there and do it again.Diving has long been a part of Ifflands life. At just five years old she would join her brother and sister in diving off small rocks near her seaside home.As she has grown taller, so have the height of the platforms; shes long graduated from 2-3 metres and now leaps off ledges almost 30 metres high in the world series. My mum was a little bit nervous for me up there the first time she saw me diving this year, Iffland said.[Her parents] knew what to expect to an extent but I guess thats helped them. They were nervous but theyve been very supportive and they knew what I wanted to achieve and where I wanted to be so they were very good about that. I think they keep their nerves on the inside and not show them too much.I think its close to 70km/h and we slow down within a second. Its like being thrown into a washing machine sometimes. Your body just crumbles if youre not ready for the impact.Ifflands personality is as bubbly as the water she throws herself into and while her diving commitments have put her highly anticipated homecoming on hold she took the opportunity to submit two tongue-in-cheek requests before she returns.Id like a parade, Iffland joked.I would also like to some banana pancakes. Anthony had 24 points and nine rebounds, and the Knicks avenged an embarrassing home loss with a rout of their own, beating the Boston Celtics 114-88 on Wednesday night for their third straight victory. Ancelotti says Ronaldo has recovered from a hamstring injury but "but he doesnt feel comfortable yet so we wont risk him." Wholesale Hornets Jerseys . Now, with Game 6 set for Fenway Park and an 8:07 p.m. ET first pitch, the Detroit Tigers face the unenviable task of having to beat the Boston Red Sox twice, on the road, to advance to the World Series.Northern Ireland boss Michael ONeill is happy to keep on tinkering with his formation as he looks for a perfect Euro 2016 playing system. ONeill played 45 minutes each in the 1-1 draw with Wales on Thursday with 3-5-2 and 4-3-3 formations, the latter having been his preference for much of their successful qualifying campaign.Northern Ireland will play three more friendlies, against Slovenia on Monday and then Belarus and Slovakia, before their first game in the tournament against Poland on June 12, and ONeill will continue to experiment with his teams shape on an ad hoc basis. When asked about his switch to 3-5-2, ONeill said: We were a little bit disappointed that maybe we didnt have more of an attacking threat with that system.I think the two lads up front worked very hard. Its the first time theyve played together and Kyle (Lafferty) hasnt played much football. There are mitigating factors in that. Kyle Lafferty is hoping for more playing time at Birmingham after being frozen out at Norwich Theres always comfort as a coach and a manager when you say youre going to change to four. We threw Jonny (Evans) in at left-back and he doesnt bat an eyelid and we played in the 4-3-3 and are able to deal with it.Its exactly what we want. In the summer we are going to have to be flexible. Either system has strengths or weaknesses depending on how the games going. The most important thing between now and the end of the summer is the players are able to adapt it and understand it very quickly, and the game on Thursday night gave me a lot more confidence that thats the case.Norwich striker Lafferty played 81 minutes against Wales, hours after completing a loan move to Birmingham, and ONeill hopes his drop down to the Sky Bet Championship for playing time will be to his countrys advantage. Sky Sports Paul Gilmour visits Northern Ireland stars Jonny Evans and Gareth McAuley as they get their Euro 2016 suits fitted Its up to him now to have an impact as well, ONeill added.ddddddddddddBirmingham have ambitions and something to play for. That being the case, if he is a contributing factor to them having a good finish to the season then hell be in a better frame of mind when he comes away with us in the summer. One man ONeill will not be considering is Watfords Troy Deeney. Deeney had hoped be might be eligible to play for Northern Ireland, but he misses out by a generation - a great grandparent has Northern Irish roots, not, as is required, a grandparent. Norwich and Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty has agreed to join Birmingham on loan for the rest of the season ONeill told Sky Sports News HQ: I did explore the possibility of Troy representing Northern Ireland - but that was four years ago.The eligibility, that he believed was available, wasnt. He is a generation out in terms of his bloodline to Northern Ireland. Thats all I can say about it. Hes a player we would have loved to have involved. But unfortunately we wont be able to take it further.
